掃羅王(King Saul)聽從先知撒母耳(Samuel)指示, 來到伯利恆(Bethlehem)耶西(Jesse)家尋訪 神所指定的接班人 – 大衛(David), 並將他帶到帳前為貼身近衛. 大衛並不時彈奏豎琴(Harp)以撫慰掃羅王受惡靈侵襲致煩悶的心靈.
撒母耳上記(1 Samuel)
16:12 ; 16:23
12 耶西就打發人去叫了他來．他面色光紅、雙目清秀、容貌俊美．耶和華說、這就是他、你起來膏他。
So he
sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome
features. Then the LORD said, "Rise and anoint him; he is the one."
23 惡魔臨到掃羅身上的時候、大衛就拿琴用手而彈、掃羅便舒暢爽快、惡魔離了他。
Whenever
the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then
relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would
leave him.
大衛後來自動請纓, 陣前以彈弓機裹石塊, 擊斃前來挑釁的菲力士(Philistines)巨人歌利亞(Giant
Goliath), 此後聲名大噪, 深受以色列人民愛戴;
掃羅王見大衛羽翼漸豐, 心中竟是五味雜陳, 妒火中燒, 演練時故意拿槍想刺殺他, 還推託是受惡魔誘惑所致, 
最後不得已, 發動攻打菲力士人(Philistines),
趁機把大衛派上前線戰場,
不料大衛奮勇殺敵, 殺了很多菲力士人(Philistines)來交差, 掃羅王不得不招他回宮, 並將愛女嫁他為妻.
撒母耳上記(1
Samuel) 18:5-12; 18:25-27
5 掃羅無論差遣大衛往何處去、他都作事精明．掃羅就立他作戰士長、眾百姓和掃羅的臣僕、無不喜悅。
Whatever Saul sent
him to do, David did it so successfully that Saul gave him a high rank in the
army. This pleased all the people, and Saul's officers as well.
6 大衛打死了那非利士人、同眾人回來的時候、婦女們從以色列各城裡出來、歡歡喜喜、打鼓擊磬、歌唱跳舞、迎接掃羅王。
When the men were
returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from
all the towns of Israel
to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with
tambourines and lutes.
7 眾婦女舞蹈唱和、說、掃羅殺死千千、大衛殺死萬萬。
As they danced,
they sang: "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of
thousands."
8 掃羅甚發怒、不喜悅這話、就說、將萬萬歸大衛、千千歸我、只剩下王位沒有給他了。
Saul was very
angry; this refrain galled him. "They have credited David with tens of
thousands," he thought, "but me with only thousands. What more can he
get but the kingdom?"
9 從這日起、掃羅就怒視大衛。
And from that time
on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.
10 次日、從 神那裡來的惡魔、大大降在掃羅身上、他就在家中胡言亂語．大衛照常彈琴．掃羅手裡拿著槍。
The next day an
evil spirit from God came forcefully upon Saul. He was prophesying in his
house, while David was playing the harp, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in
his hand
11 掃羅把槍一掄、心裡說、我要將大衛刺透、釘在牆上。大衛躲避他兩次。
and he hurled it,
saying to himself, "I'll pin David to the wall." But David eluded him
twice.
12 掃羅懼怕大衛、因為耶和華離開自己、與大衛同在。
Saul was afraid of
David, because the LORD was with David but had left Saul.
25 掃羅說、你們要對大衛這樣說、王不要甚麼聘禮、只要一百非利士人的陽皮、好在王的仇敵身上報仇。掃羅的意思要使大衛喪在非利士人的手裡。
Saul replied,
"Say to David, 'The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred
Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.'" Saul's plan was to
have David fall by the hands of the Philistines.
26 掃羅的臣僕將這話告訴大衛、大衛就歡喜作王的女婿。日期還沒有到、
When the
attendants told David these things, he was pleased to become the king's
son-in-law. So before the allotted time elapsed,
27 大衛和跟隨他的人起身前往、殺了二百非利士人、將陽皮滿數交給王、為要作王的女婿。於是掃羅將女兒米甲給大衛為妻。
David and his men
went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and
presented the full number to the king so that he might become the king's
son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage.
以色列開始立王以後, 出了三位重要的國王, 第一位是掃羅王, 第二位是大衛王, 第三位我們且留待下星期日再來討論. 其中大衛王把首都定都在耶路撒冷(Jerusalem), 所以後人也稱耶路撒冷(Jerusalem)為大衛城(City of David), 亦即 神在地上的王國(ZION), 並將代表大衛的星, 給繪製在以色列國旗上, 亦稱為大衛之星旗.
大衛王在位期間, 功勳彪炳, 但是自古英雄難過美人關, 卻為了貪婪美色, 霸佔屬下人妻
(Concubine即時下所稱的小三) 生下一子, 欲蓋彌彰害屬下戰死前線, 而毀了一世的英名, 並招致 神對他氣憤不已. 就連要建聖殿以擺放, 自摩西以來輾轉流連四方, 甚至被敵人搶去的約櫃(Ark of God), 神都不准他興建.
撒母耳下記(2
Samuel) 11:2-5 ; 14-17; 26-27
2 一日太陽平西、大衛從床上起來、在王宮的平頂上遊行、看見一個婦人沐浴、容貌甚美。
One evening David
got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof
he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful,
3 大衛就差人打聽那婦人是誰．有人說、他是以連的女兒、赫人烏利亞的妻拔示巴。
and David sent
someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the
daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"
4 大衛差人去、將婦人接來．那時他的月經纔得潔淨．他來了、大衛與他同房、他就回家去了。
Then David sent
messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had
purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home.
5 於是他懷了孕、打發人去告訴大衛說、我懷了孕。
The woman
conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant."
14 次日早晨、大衛寫信與約押、交烏利亞隨手帶去。
In the morning
David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.
15 信內寫著說、要派烏利亞前進、到陣勢極險之處、你們便退後、使他被殺。
In it he wrote,
"Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw
from him so he will be struck down and die."
16 約押圍城的時候、知道敵人那裡有勇士、便將烏利亞派在那裡。
So while Joab had
the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest
defenders were.
17 城裡的人出來和約押打仗．大衛的僕人中有幾個被殺的、赫人烏利亞也死了。
When the men of
the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David's army
fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died.
26 烏利亞的妻聽見丈夫烏利亞死了、就為他哀哭。
When Uriah's wife
heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.
27 哀哭的日子過了、大衛差人將他接到宮裡、他就作了大衛的妻、給大衛生了一個兒子。但大衛所行的這事、耶和華甚不喜悅。
After the time of
mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife
and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the LORD.
